My journey so far

My journey into healthcare started my Junior year of High School(2017) when I completed a CNA program my high school offered- I had no idea what i gotten myself into. My mom is an Emergency Room Nurse, so growing up i’ve always heard the stories, went to staff meeting with my mom, and being surrounded by healthcare workers. Even with that, i still had no idea what being a healthcare workers really meant- And boy did i learn the hard way.

I was always drawn to the emergency department-although I expected it to be a lot more like Grey’s Anatomy- I chose to apply to an emergency department as an ED tech. I worked at a smaller hospital for a year then made the decision to apply to a Level One Trauma center, and started March of 2020(sound familiar?).

My current position has given me a huge advantage for the nursing program i am in. Moving even from the rural ER to a large teaching hospital was a completely different world. They train ED techs at my hospital to suture, staple, blood draw, splint, EKG, assist in leveled traumas/procedure set up(chest tube, thoracotomy, ect.). Having this job has taught me so much for my future career and my personal life.
